The Lundy Run record and so much more!

Thursday, 3 September 2009

[Rach] A passing remark to Nicola (Lundy Warden) whilst on holiday in Fowey triggered a chain of events which resulted in a 'Double Lundy Run' record being added to my set of running achievements so far!

After a 5.30am start, a rough and sea-sick crossing, we arrived on Lundy to find posters advertising my 'record breaking' attempt to begin at 2pm. Tent up, and a quick cheese and tomato sandwich saw me and my wobbly legs set off on the first lap of the famous Lundy Run. The time to beat was 2 hours 40 mins for the double. I was very nervous and had no idea whether I would come close to beating the record.

My support team (huge thanks to Sam, Steph, Anna, Ged, Andy, Tim, Ollie, Aled, Kirst, Welshy) were out in force cheering me on, and more importantly drumming up lots of support raising money for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Kirst joined me for the second lap which provided a much needed boost in morale - my legs felt stronger and I finally relaxed. As I crossed the line in 2 hours 36 minutes and 45 seconds I was elated to have broken the record. The icing on the cake was that my team had raised over £100!!

Thank you to all the visitors and staff on Lundy for all your generous donations and support!

And so much more...

As part of the regular fun on an August bank holiday on Lundy, there is the Lundy 'Lympics. We all took part and by some miracle (and a serious talent for peg picking) I managed to win the GOLD MEDAL. I have never had such a weekend of sporting success (or a week or year for that matter!).

And a little bit more...

Then there was the Battle For The Sweets round 2! The sweet jar had been on the bar all weekend generating a slow buzz of interest (although not to the level it had caused in the office on Friday!).

Sam Matthews, a dedicated participator, won the Sweets, with a near spot-on guess of 387 (there were actually 386) and the sweet jar was passed around the Tavern in a frenzy!

Thank you to everyone who joined the battle - you raised another whopping £60 for The Prostate Cancer Charity!

And just a little bit more...

The excitement of the weekend didn't end there... thanks to gale force winds on Tuesday the Oldenburg was cancelled and we all got helicoptered off the Island!!!

So, a fantastic weekend of fun and achievements for me has improved my fundraising target by a massive £160!!! Thank you again to everyone who contributed.

If you'd like to sponsor me and help me hit my £1500 target please don't hesitate to check out my JustGiving page.
