Marathon Training Update Week 1

Monday, 8 June 2009

Firstly we just want to thank you all for sponsoring us. We're amazed with the amount of money you've all donated in a space of a few days.

Last week we managed to cover 50 miles between us. So here's a little recap from me (Leroy).

I decided that I should start running in the mornings before going to work (not one of my brightest ideas I must say). Managed to complete two 7am runs much to my amazement. It was nice to be up at that time, not many people around so easy to run on the streets, although it did feel like I was in a daze and not really awake. That all changed as soon as I hit the hill at the end of Whiteladies Road .. bam! I soon woke up wondering what sane person would be doing this at this time of morning and then almost started to crawl on all fours. Thankfully by the time I got over the shock I was enjoying a gentle run back downhill towards home.

[Rach] Well.. I too managed an early run - Monday morning before 7am - nothing like an active start to the week!?! Got a shout out from Kirst and Welsh as I sped (well ok.. trundled might be more accurate) past them leaving for work. Tuesday night was Boxercise with Clare - an hour of circuits and boxing which so far has always left me crawling and in pain for days afterwards.. hopefully soon I'll be fit enough to make it through a session unscathed!

We both tackled a mammoth run on Thursday evening after work. 7 miles starting from the heart of Bristol heading over to Ashton Court then back over the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge towards the City Centre. We even persuaded our 'coach' (Adam) to join us on his bike so he could take some photos and give us some support, but we think he needed the support with the amount of time he spent collapsed in the hedge.

Weekend was meant to be a little more chilled out for me but not sure where I went wrong. Decided to do a short 3 mile run on Saturday that ended up being a bit of a speed run and Sunday was meant to be a nice gentle run through Ashton Court but ended up doing a 10 miler (after not finding the right path). So I'm paying for it a little today. This week I'll try and take it a bit easier .. before I get my wrists slapped for overdoing it.

[Rach again] Saturday morning saw Tory lead me on an Aldbourne 8-miler in the chilly drizzle - great to be running in the countryside for a change but had to sleep for an hour in the afternoon to recover!

So, 1 week down 21 weeks to go (gulp!)
